2025 Wuhan Open Draw: Sabalenka Begins Her China Season, Embarks on Title Defense Journey

On October 4th Beijing time, the main draw for the 2025 WTA1000 Wuhan singles event was announced. World No.1 and defending champion Sabalenka, seeded first, is in the top half, with her initial opponent to be determined between Shramkova and Kalinskaya. Second seed Swiatek is placed in the bottom half, with her first match against either Buzkova or Osorio. Additionally, the top eight seeds including Gauff, Anisimova, Andreyeva, Pegula, Paolini, and Rybakina all receive first-round byes.

Regarding Chinese players, Wang Xinyu qualified based on her ranking and will face a qualifier in the first round, with a potential second-round match against third seed Gauff. Zhu Lin entered using a protected ranking and will play against Jonté in the opening round, then possibly face 15th seed Schneider. Zhang Shuai and Yuan Yue received wildcards, drawing 14th seed Navarro and a qualifier respectively in their first matches.

The WTA1000 Wuhan event returned to the tour calendar last year. This year, the women's singles main draw will take place from October 6th to 12th, with total prize money reaching $3,654,963. The singles champion will earn 1000 ranking points and $596,000 in prize money. Sabalenka is the defending champion, having won all three of her Wuhan appearances (2018, 2019, and 2024). Last year, she defeated Zheng Qinwen in a three-set final to claim the title.
