Djokovic’s debut features the character “德,” a heartfelt tribute from Chinese fans—a beautiful mutual affection!

The Shanghai Masters is progressing intensely, and the most prominent player is unquestionably Djokovic, who confirmed his return to compete at the very last minute this year.

In yesterday’s match, he appeared in the night session and ultimately triumphed over Cilic, earning a victorious opening. After the match, Djokovic spontaneously wrote the character “德” in front of the camera, which, despite not being perfectly done, conveyed his genuine intention.

Good feelings are always reciprocal; Djokovic’s Chinese fans have shown him immense love and true affection, as evidenced by an event outside the court.

Many fans selected key moments from Djokovic’s nearly annual career highlights, made posters, and brought them to the venue. So, what are these moments? Let’s take a closer look.

1987, the year Djokovic was born.

1991, four-year-old Djokovic first picked up a tennis racket.

1994, at seven years old, young Djokovic’s interest in tennis grew stronger.

2003, Djokovic officially became a professional player.

2006, Djokovic won his first tour-level title.

2007, Djokovic claimed the Miami title, his first Masters victory.

2008, Djokovic won the Australian Open, capturing his first Grand Slam title in his debut semifinal appearance.

2010, Djokovic led Serbia to win the Davis Cup.

2011, on July 4th, Djokovic reached world No. 1 for the first time.

2014, Djokovic got married and became a father.

2016, after winning the French Open, Djokovic completed the career Grand Slam, filling the last missing piece eight years after his first major title. Although he didn’t achieve the calendar-year Grand Slam like his predecessor Laver, his streak of winning four consecutive majors is equally historic. The 16,950 ranking points he earned that year remain unbeaten nearly a decade later.

2020, at the Cincinnati Masters, Djokovic defeated Federer, completing the “Golden Masters” — a unique record held solely by him so far.

2023, Djokovic surpassed Federer and Nadal by winning his 24th Grand Slam singles title, becoming the male player with the most Grand Slam singles trophies in history. He also achieved winning three Grand Slams in a single year four times (2011, 2015, 2021, 2023), spanning 12 years, demonstrating his extraordinary longevity.

2024, with 428 weeks at world No. 1, Djokovic has far surpassed Federer’s previous record. That same year, his Olympic gold medal dream also came true, blending happiness and aspiration into reality.

2025, this year in Geneva, Djokovic reached his 100th tour title, continuing to surprise and delight fans.
