2025 Wuhan Open Qualifiers: Wang Yafan and Wang Xiyu Advance in Three Sets, Tian Fangran Exits

On October 4th Beijing time, the opening round of the women's singles qualifiers at the 2025 WTA1000 Wuhan event was held, where three Chinese players participating in the qualifiers posted a 2-1 record.

Wang Yafan, who played first, twice rallied from a 0-4 game deficit in both the first and final sets to edge out the 16th seed Sorribes Tormo 6-4/4-6/6-4, earning her first win of the Chinese season. In the final qualifying round, Wang Yafan will face the 7th seed Siniakova for a main draw spot, after Siniakova defeated McNally 7-5/6-3.

Wang Xiyu competed in the night session against the 9th seed Bouzkova, responding to continuous attacks by raising her level in the last two sets. Although she missed five match points after leading 5-1 in the deciding set, she eventually came back to win 2-6/6-3/6-3. Next, Wang Xiyu will battle against Moka Niijima for qualification, with Niijima having eliminated the 5th seed Ella 6-4/3-6/6-2.

Another Chinese young wildcard, Tian Fangran, lost 4-6/2-6 to the Italian player Bronzetti, failing to advance.
