It is extremely rare for a female tennis player to undergo breast augmentation while still competing at the highest level.
Breast augmentation surgery is seldom a concern for professional tennis players, but French tennis star Oceane Dodin chose a challenging path to express herself. The 28-year-old athlete is well known for her passion for fashion and sensual style, often drawing attention on social media with bold outfit photos.
In an interview with RMC Sport recently, Dodin discussed her decision to have breast augmentation surgery—which she underwent during a lengthy recovery period. The player, who once ranked as high as 46th in the world, said this was a long-held desire she hadn’t been able to fulfill earlier due to a busy competition schedule.
"It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time.", Dodin said. "I took advantage of my break from competition because I figured if I had to be out for six months, I might as well do what I want. I’d rather do it now than wait until I’m 40—after my career is over. I’m very happy I did it, I have no regrets, and it hasn’t affected my mindset on court."
Dodin emphasized that her choice contrasts with former world No. 1 Simona Halep’s case, who had breast reduction surgery when she was younger to improve her performance. "Many people told me I wouldn’t be able to play tennis anymore, as if I was carrying a watermelon around.", the French player laughed. "But that’s not true. I have specially designed sports bras, and it doesn’t put me at any disadvantage on the court."
The French player even shared humorously: "Halep had to reduce her breast size because they were too large and hindered her. For me, it’s the opposite—I might be the first to get breast augmentation while still competing at the top level. Someone has to be the pioneer."
After the surgery, Dodin returned to the court with a new appearance and affirmed that her performance has not declined. She hopes her tennis will remain the main focus rather than side discussions about her looks.
In recent months, Dodin’s social media has been filled with images of her new look, attracting much attention from fans. However, the 28-year-old player insists her biggest goal remains climbing higher on the WTA rankings, proving that her cosmetic decision does not diminish her ambition to compete at the highest level.
