Yesterday afternoon and evening Beijing time, the ATP1000 Shanghai Masters carried on with the singles third round. Chinese young player Shang Juncheng battled in three sets against Portugal’s Borges but ultimately lost 6-7(5), 6-4, 3-6, missing out on the round of 16. After the match, Shang expressed satisfaction with his performance despite the outcome not being what everyone hoped for.

The winner Borges will face the 7th seed, Australian rising star Deminal, who defeated Poland’s Majchrzak 6-1, 7-5. Meanwhile, 3rd seed German Zverev took the first set 6-4 but then dropped the next two 3-6, 2-6, being upset by Frenchman Lindeknech and missing the last 16. Lindeknech will next play 15th seed Czech Lehecka.

8th seed Italian star Musetti narrowly defeated fellow countryman Darderi 7-5, 7-6(1) to reach the fourth round, where he will meet 12th seed Canadian Auger-Aliassime. American young talent Lenny Chan, runner-up at the Beijing China Open, beat British veteran Norrie 7-6(4), 6-3 to reach the tournament’s last 16 for the first time.

In the fourth round, little Chan will face Russian Medvedev, who eliminated Spain’s Fucsovics 6-3, 7-6(5), extending their head-to-head to 6-1. This marks Medvedev’s third time reaching the last 16 in Shanghai. After the match, drenched and exhausted, Medvedev sat down looking utterly drained, yet he still passionately declared that Shanghai is the best city in the world.

In doubles: In a second-round match, wildcard Chinese No.1 Bu Yunchaokete and Taiwanese player Ho Cheng-wei missed a match point and lost 7-6(3), 6-7(4), 8-10 to the 2nd seeds and China Open champions Heliovaara/Paatelainen, narrowly missing the quarterfinals.
