Novak Djokovic is showing outstanding endurance at the 2025 Shanghai Masters as he keeps creating remarkable achievements.
Novak Djokovic became the oldest player to reach the ATP 1000 semifinals by defeating Zizou Bergs 6-3, 7-5 in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Shanghai Masters on October 9th, Vietnam time.
After his win against Jaume Munar in the round of 16, Djokovic worried fans due to a left Achilles tendon injury and signs of fatigue. However, in the quarterfinals against Bergs, the 38-year-old regained his rhythm, played with stamina, and completely dominated his opponent. Bergs started confidently, splitting the first four games evenly, but Djokovic showed greater composure as the match progressed. He broke serve in the sixth game to lead 4-2 and saved three break points in the following game before closing the first set with superb shots.
The second set featured intense exchanges. Bergs bravely broke back in the tenth game, but Djokovic quickly responded with a decisive break of serve, ending the match in straight sets.
"I gave my all to stay strong on the court. The playing conditions over the past few weeks have been truly tough.", Djokovic said after the match. This victory marks his 10th semifinal appearance in Shanghai, where he will face rising star Valentin Vacherot, ranked 204th in the world, who shocked the crowd by eliminating Holger Rune.
With Carlos Alcaraz absent and Jannik Sinner withdrawing in the third round, Djokovic is now the top favorite to win the title. Should he claim the Shanghai crown, he will secure his 41st Masters 1000 trophy, further breaking his own all-time record.
