Former world No.1 Medvedev defeated Deminor 6-4, 6-4, securing his 50th career win over a top 10 opponent and advancing to the Shanghai Masters semifinals.
This is his second ATP1000 Masters semifinal appearance this season.

The match against Deminor was fiercely contested, with more than 32 points involving rallies exceeding 9 strokes. Facing a somewhat fluctuating Deminor, Medvedev held the advantage through his play. The 29-year-old hit 11 more winners than the Australian (27-16) and made 2 fewer unforced errors (25-27); in the second set, his first serve win rate was an impressive 15 out of 16, eventually closing the match in 1 hour and 53 minutes.

Medvedev said after the match:
“I was very tired at the time, and I knew that against Alex—just like against Lerner—we would have many long rallies. I remember several of those rallies in the third or fourth game; I felt this match would last a long time, but I’m happy with how I played. I stayed solid on key points, delivered high-quality shots, and put a lot of pressure on him. The second set was tight, but I managed to bring out my best at the end. I’m satisfied with my level in this match.”
Medvedev is chasing his first tour title since the Rome Masters in May 2023 and will face Arthur Rinderknech in the semifinals. Earlier this season, Medvedev reached the Indian Wells Masters semifinals but was ultimately defeated by Rune.
Medvedev won the Shanghai Masters in 2019, and this is his 50th career semifinal appearance on hard courts—18 of his 20 career titles have come on hard surfaces. To pursue his 21st tour title, he has fought hard in this Shanghai Masters, including a tough three-set battle in the fourth round against Lerner.
After his Shanghai Masters run, Deminor currently ranks seventh on the PIF ATP Turin Finals qualification leaderboard. He holds a 640-point lead over the tenth-ranked Aliassime. Since ninth-ranked Jack Draper will miss the rest of the season due to injury, Aliassime is the first alternate outside the top eight on the points list.
In their ATP head-to-head record, Deminor trails Medvedev 4-8.
Following this victory, Medvedev’s live ranking rose by 4 spots to No.14.

If he wins the tournament, he will return to the top 10.
On the direct qualification list for Turin, Medvedev climbed 6 places to 15th. If he ultimately takes the title, he will move up to tenth, just one step away from qualifying for the year-end finals in Turin.

In the upcoming semifinal, Medvedev will face Rinderknech. Their head-to-head record stands at 1-0.

To qualify for the year-end finals, Medvedev will not give up his current chance. He seems to be struggling to emerge from a slump, fighting through every match as if trudging through mud. However, it’s undeniable that his new team has injected fresh motivation.
There is a very high probability that Medvedev will face Djokovic in the final.
