Medvedev leads 8-0 against the Aussie Rabbit, Sabalenka achieves 20 wins matching legends, Swiatek faces bad luck in China, and all Chinese female players are eliminated.

Three minutes daily to keep up with global tennis news. Hello tennis fans, today is Saturday, October 11, 2025. Welcome to the midday news report brought to you by "Tennis Home."

Last night Beijing time, the ATP1000 Shanghai Masters finished the men's quarterfinals, with all four semifinalists determined. The former defending champion and Russian star Medvedev played steadily, defeating 7th seed Australian Demoliner 6-4, 6-4, avenging his loss earlier this year in Monte Carlo. After this match, Medvedev’s head-to-head record against him improved to 8-4.

In another match, Frenchman Linderknech maintained his hot form with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over 12th seed Canadian Aliassime, earning his first win in three encounters this year and reaching the Masters singles semifinals for the first time in his career. The semifinals will feature Djokovic vs. Vacherot and Medvedev vs. Linderknech.

Additionally, after the quarterfinals, the Shanghai Masters organizers held the "Federer Super Friends Night" event at the Qizhong Tennis Center. Swiss legend Federer, Chinese tennis veteran Zheng Jie, actor Wu Lei, and Hong Kong martial arts star Donnie Yen paired up for a doubles exhibition match, receiving enthusiastic applause from the crowd and enjoying themselves both on and off the court.

Now turning to the women's competition. Last night Beijing time, the WTA1000 Wuhan Open quarterfinals concluded, with all semifinal spots filled. Three-time champion and top seed Sabalenka defeated 8th seed Kazakhstan’s Rybakina 6-3, 6-3, extending her perfect 20-0 record at Wuhan and advancing strongly to the semifinals. Since 1990, Sabalenka is the fourth player after Seles, Graf, and Wozniacki to win her first 20 matches in a WTA-level singles event, setting a new personal record.

Next, she will compete against American Pegula for a place in the final. Pegula came back from 2-6 down to win 6-0, 6-3 against Czech qualifier Siniakova, reaching her 13th career 1000-level semifinal and securing her spot in this year’s WTA year-end championships singles draw.

In another highlight match, 7th seed Italian "Little Cannon" Paolini crushed 2nd seed and world No. 2 Swiatek 6-1, 6-2, claiming her first victory in seven meetings and advancing to the 1000-level semifinals for the fifth time, a personal best. In the semifinals, she will face 3rd seed and top American Gauff, who swept Germany’s Siegemund 6-3, 6-0 and reached the semifinals here for the second consecutive year.

After her first win over Swiatek, Paolini was very happy and wrote "Paolini super happy" on camera. Meanwhile, Swiatek, following her loss without winning a game to American Navarro at the China Open, suffered another heavy defeat in China—getting bageled, bagelled again, and even roasted... it seems the Polish player’s luck in China just isn’t good!

In women’s doubles, the Chinese pair Jiang Xinyu/Zhan Haoqing lost 4-6, 2-6 to Hunter/Siniakova in the quarterfinals, missing the semifinals. The Chinese-Canadian duo Yuan Yue/Andrescu also fell 4-6, 6-7(1) to 8th seeds Danilina/Krunic, ending their run in the quarters. Thus, no Chinese players remain in the Wuhan tournament.

Now for player updates. Yesterday afternoon Beijing time, news emerged that China’s top male player Bu Yunchaokete withdrew from next week’s ATP250 Almaty event due to health reasons. We wish him a speedy recovery!

Finally, a guessing game. The photo below shows a player covering her face with a towel and crying after a loss. Without hints, can you identify who she is?

Last time’s guess was answered correctly by some fans. Yes, the person in the photo is the Italian Musetti.
