Carlos Alcaraz is effectively utilizing his short pause from tennis.
The Spanish player is believed to have made a wise choice by withdrawing from the Shanghai Masters, while his biggest rival – Jannik Sinner – was eliminated early.
During some downtime on the golf course, Alcaraz briefly updated on his physical condition. He stated that his left ankle is recovering well after the injury sustained at the ATP 500 Tokyo tournament. At this pace, fans can expect the world number one to return to competition at the Six Kings Slam in Riyadh within six days.
Alcaraz twisted his ankle in the opening match against Sebastian Baez in Tokyo, right at the fifth game of the first set. Although his coaching team advised him to retire to preserve his fitness, Alcaraz was determined to continue playing after receiving brief medical treatment.
Fortunately, he maintained his mobility and won against Baez in straight sets. Over the next day and a half, Alcaraz and physiotherapist Juanjo Moreno worked tirelessly to prepare for the next match.
The world number one then played four more matches without any serious issues, defeating Taylor Fritz in the final to claim his eighth ATP title of the season. However, he still chose to rest and skip the Shanghai Masters to avoid overexertion.
This decision is considered entirely prudent, especially with Sinner’s early exit and his slim chances of contesting the year-end number one spot. This relieves Alcaraz from pressure at the Paris Masters and ATP Finals in Turin, allowing him to compete more freely for the remainder of the season.
Now, after resting and “recharging” on the golf course, Alcaraz confirms he is ready to come back strong, starting with the Six Kings Slam in Riyadh, followed by the Paris Masters, ATP Finals, and Davis Cup Finals. The El Palmar player concluded his message with optimism: “I am ready to return – this time with my racket in hand.”
