On October 11th, the 2025 Wuhan Open wrapped up its semifinal day with 6th seed Pegula edging out top seed Sabalenka, and 3rd seed Gauff defeating 7th seed Paolini in two sets, resulting in an all-American final in the women’s singles event.

Pegula
The sixth seed Pegula and three-time Wuhan champion Sabalenka faced each other across the net in the semifinals, with Sabalenka leading their head-to-head 8-2. In today’s match, Sabalenka started strong, taking the first set 6-2. In the second set, Pegula capitalized on Sabalenka’s inconsistency in serving and returning, leveling the match by winning 6-4. In the decisive set, Sabalenka gained an early 5-2 lead but then struggled, allowing Pegula to push the set to a tiebreak, which Pegula ultimately won 7-6(2) to complete the comeback.
After ending Sabalenka’s 20-match winning streak at the Wuhan Open, Pegula said, “I’m really happy to have beaten such a strong opponent and to reach the final. Every time I play her, she’s better than before, so I have to improve myself to overcome her. It was a very close match, but in the end, I executed my tactics well and seized the opportunities. I’m very proud to have won.”

Gauff
Gauff’s semifinal opponent was Paolini, against whom she had lost all three meetings this season. In this match, after a 3-2 scoreline in the first set, a series of service breaks ensued, with Gauff holding a slight edge to take the set 6-4. It wasn’t until the 7th game of the second set that Gauff broke the deadlock, then took control to win 6-4, 6-3, advancing to her first Wuhan Open women’s singles final.
After the match, Gauff said, “I’m satisfied with my performance today, especially maintaining good form on my serve. I’ve reached several finals this year, which has given me valuable experience to perform at my best tomorrow.” Regarding her opponent Pegula in the final, Gauff noted that Pegula has been in great form this year; their previous matches have been evenly split, so she plans to focus on her own game and keep everything under control.

Hunter/Siniakova

Danilina/Krunic
In the women’s doubles event, Hunter and Siniakova swept Mihalikova and Nichols in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, to reach the final first. They will face the 8th seeds Danilina and Krunic, who edged past Sigmund and Stollar 6-1, 4-6, 11-9. The doubles final is scheduled to start at 16:00 Beijing time tomorrow.
On October 12th, the 2025 Wuhan Open will conclude with the final day of championship matches. Following the doubles final, the women’s singles final will begin no earlier than 18:30 Beijing time. Gauff and Pegula have met six times before, with Gauff holding a slight advantage at 4-2. Looking ahead to the match, Pegula said, “We know each other and each other’s teams very well; there are no secrets between us. It all depends on how we execute our tactics, and I hope the match will unfold in our favor.”
