FAA’s Sinner returns to the throne but loses initiative due to injury, Gauff’s touch turns icy, three titles decided across three events

Three minutes daily to catch up on global tennis news. Hello tennis fans, today is Monday, November 3, 2025. Welcome to the midday news report brought to you by "Tennis Home."

Early this morning Beijing time, the thrilling finale of the ATP1000 Paris Masters took place. In the men’s singles final, second seed and world No. 2 Sinner defeated ninth seed, Canadian star Aliassime, 6-4, 7-6(4), extending his indoor hardcourt winning streak to 26 matches and capturing his fifth Masters title without dropping a set.

After achieving his desired victory, Sinner’s points surpassed those of Spain’s Alcaraz, allowing him to reclaim the world No. 1 ranking this week. However, since points from last year’s year-end finals will drop next week, Sinner will only hold the top spot for one week, setting up a final showdown with Alcaraz for the year-end No. 1 at the championships.

Runner-up Aliassime confirmed after the match that due to physical discomfort, he will withdraw from this week’s ATP250 Metz tournament, thus losing the chance to secure the last singles spot for the Turin year-end finals. If Italian Musetti wins the ATP250 Athens event, he will surpass FAA and claim the final finals berth. Otherwise, Aliassime will sneak in at the last moment.

In the men’s doubles final, third seeds Haileiwala and Patten defeated second seeds Cash and Graspur 6-3, 6-4 to win their first Masters doubles title.

Turning to the Riyadh WTA year-end finals, early this morning Beijing time, the singles Graf group completed two round-robin matches. Top seed and world No. 1 Sabalenka dominated eighth seed, Italy’s rising star Paolini, 6-3, 6-1, securing her fifth straight win over her and starting strong. Sabalenka also reached a new milestone by achieving 60 wins in a single season for the first time.

Defending champion and third seed Gauff lost to fifth seed compatriot Pegula 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-2, missing her first win. In this match, Gauff’s touch was icy cold, committing 17 double faults and 75 unforced errors, and she was broken 9 times in 15 service games, practically handing the victory to her opponent.

In the doubles Huber group, defending champions and third seeds Dabrowski and Lottliev opened with a 6-3, 7-6(2) win over fifth seeds Andreyeva and Schneider. Second seeds Siniakova and Townsend defeated seventh seeds Babos and Stephens 6-2, 3-6, 10-6, also starting their campaign with a victory.

Let’s look at other venues. Last night Beijing time, three WTA250 events wrapped up with champions crowned. Hong Kong: third seed, Canadian rising star Mboko defeated Spain’s Bucsa 7-5, 6-7(9), 6-2 to claim her second career title after Montreal. This week, the 19-year-old will break into the world’s top 20 for the first time.

In doubles, Chinese duo Jiang Xinyu and Wang Yafan won the title with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Momoko Kobori and Pripujeho. This marks Jiang’s sixth career doubles title and Wang’s fourth.

Jiujiang: Russian Blinkova beat 17-year-old Austrian wildcard Tagger 6-3, 6-3, winning her first tour title in three years.

Chennai: Indonesia’s top player Zeng Limi defeated seventh seed Australian Biller 6-4, 6-3 to win her first career singles tour title. Later, partnering with compatriot Sugadi, she beat top seeds Hunter and Niculescu 7-5, 6-4 to achieve the rare feat of winning both singles and doubles titles, becoming the first Indonesian to do so.

Finally, let’s play a guessing game. The image below shows the silhouette of a player. Without hints, can you identify who it is?

In the last guessing game, some fans gave the correct answer. Yes, the person in the picture is Kazakhstan’s star player, Rybakina.
