Seven-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic was challenged in the second round to beat qualifier Faria 6-1, 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-2 to reach the round of 32 for the seventh consecutive year. No.3 seed Alcaraz swept past Yoshihito Nishioka 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 to easily advance to the round of 32. No.6 seed Ruud suffered a shock defeat to Czech rookie Menchik in the second round and became the most seeded in the men's singles. No.29 seed Aliassime lost in a five-set battle with Davidovic Fokina. No.27 seed and homegrown player Thompson is also out.
