Iga Swiatek's campaign at the 2025 WTA Finals concluded prematurely.
Swiatek closed her 2025 season with a 7-6, 4-6, 2-6 loss to Amanda Anisimova in the WTA Finals group stage last night on November 5th, Vietnam time.
After her historic Wimbledon victory in July, Swiatek entered the year-end tournament eager to finish the year with a major title, hoping to replicate her success from two years ago. The Polish player started the WTA Finals strongly by defeating Madison Keys in the opening match. However, she lost matches despite leading by a set against Elena Rybakina and Amanda Anisimova — whom Swiatek had previously dominated 6-0, 6-0 at Wimbledon a few months earlier.
This defeat forced Swiatek, who was expected to finish the season ranked world No. 2 behind Aryna Sabalenka, to acknowledge her own limitations.
"I did everything I could, so I have no regrets.", Swiatek said after the match."Tennis is not perfect. I fought until the end, but this time it wasn’t enough. Maybe I just need to keep improving myself. I feel fine physically and mentally, but the results don’t reflect that."
Swiatek also made a surprising comment following her loss to Anisimova: "Maybe I won too much last year, so now the universe wants to balance things out."
Although finishing the WTA Finals in disappointment, 2025 was still a year of resurgence for the 24-year-old. After dropping to world No. 8 in June, Swiatek bounced back with two major titles at Wimbledon — her first Grand Slam grass-court championship — and the Cincinnati Open, reaffirming her status as one of the most complete players in the world.
