ATP Finals: Djokovic’s Participation Uncertain as Musetti’s Final Round Push Adds Uncertainty

The 2025 ATP Finals group draw is set, led by Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner as the top seeds of their respective groups, but doubts linger just before the competition begins.

This high-stakes annual tournament is scheduled for November 9-16 at the Pala Alpitour in Turin. According to the ATP rankings on November 10, Alcaraz, as the top seed, is placed in the Jimmy Connors group, while second seed Sinner leads the Björn Borg group.

Alcaraz faces a tough challenge in the same group as seven-time ATP Finals champion Novak Djokovic. Also in the group are America’s top player Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur.

Defending champion Sinner will compete against third seed Zverev, with Ben Shelton also in the group. Currently, Aliassime is also part of this group.

The full schedule and match order have not been confirmed, but the first singles match is set to start at 14:00 local time on Sunday, with the second match scheduled for 20:30.

However, the final draw might still have some complications.

Djokovic was seeded fourth during Thursday’s draw, but he has yet to confirm his participation — earlier this week, he told the media, “I will decide after this week’s tournament.”

The key issue is that if Djokovic reaches the final of the ongoing Greek Open, he will play on Saturday, November 8, and then must quickly travel to Turin for the ATP Finals.

Nonetheless, in modern tennis, this is usually manageable as players often travel by private jet, and both events are located in Europe.

Additionally, Musetti still has a chance to qualify for this prestigious year-end event, which could further complicate the situation.

Currently, Musetti ranks ninth in the Turin Race, with Aliassime holding the eighth and final direct qualification spot. However, if Musetti wins the Greek Open, he will replace Aliassime in the draw and join the Björn Borg group.

It gets more complex if Djokovic decides not to participate in Turin; both Aliassime and Musetti would then qualify for the tournament.

If Musetti wins the Greek Open, he secures automatic qualification into the Björn Borg group, while Aliassime would become Djokovic’s replacement, joining the Jimmy Connors group in the Serbian’s stead.

Conversely, if Musetti fails to surpass Aliassime in the rankings, he would serve as Djokovic’s alternate, and the Canadian player would remain in Sinner’s group.

So, guess whether Djokovic will compete in this year’s ATP Finals? [laughing][laughing]
