The 26-year-old tennis player revealed the secret behind achieving an unprecedented milestone in history and receiving a record-breaking prize money.

Elena Rybakina has just revealed the secret that helped her win the WTA Finals. The Kazakh player defeated the WTA world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets to claim her first WTA Finals title.

Thanks to winning all 5 matches at the tournament featuring the top 8 players of the season, Rybakina earned a prize of up to 5.23 million USD. According to the WTA, this is the highest prize in women’s sports history. Sabalenka, as runner-up, also took home 2.7 million USD.

Elena Rybakina made history for Kazakh tennis by winning the 2025 WTA Finals. She became the first Kazakh player to win this prestigious season-ending tournament.

Elena Rybakina convincingly defeated Sabalenka to win the 2025 WTA Finals.

This victory marks a strong late-season breakthrough, bringing Rybakina back among the dominant players on the big stage. She raised her hard-court wins this season to 45, leading the entire WTA. The 26-year-old Kazakh also became the 10th consecutive new champion at the WTA Finals and climbed to world No. 5. This achievement is a sweet result of her persistent efforts.

After the match, Rybakina said that focus was the key to overcoming tense moments against Sabalenka: "I just tried to maintain maximum concentration. Even during the tie-break, I only realized the match was over when the umpire announced the end of the game, set, or match. I had previously lost leads in tie-breaks, so this time I reminded myself to stay calm."

Before the WTA Finals, Rybakina played a series of tournaments in Asia and won two titles, securing her place in Riyadh. This could have caused fitness issues, but the opposite happened. Rybakina admitted that not putting too much pressure on herself helped her excel in Saudi Arabia.

"We only had two days to practice before the tournament, and I had to quickly adapt to the new conditions. We focused on serving, which gave me a big advantage," Rybakina shared.

Now, Rybakina’s next goal is Grand Slam titles. Wimbledon 2022 remains her only major trophy, which doesn’t fully match her talent and potential.

"Everything that happened this week will motivate me to work harder next season. I will try to bring the positive momentum into more important matches," Rybakina stated. If she keeps this competitive spirit, Rybakina could be a strong contender at the Grand Slams next year.
