Murray became part of Djokovic's coaching staff in November 2024, only three months after the 38-year-old Scot retired from professional play at the Paris Olympics.

However, their partnership lasted just about six months, spanning the 2025 Australian Open and three additional tournaments.

"Looking back, I'm glad I took the opportunity," Murray shared with The Tennis Podcast. "It was an incredible experience for me. Though brief, I gave it my all.

"I was disappointed because the results weren't quite what I had hoped for him.

"But it was a valuable chance since I wanted to try coaching at some point, and if I hadn’t done it, I might have regretted missing out on learning a lot and having an interesting experience," Murray added, who secured three Grand Slam singles titles during an era dominated by Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal.

Djokovic beat Carlos Alcaraz to advance to the Australian Open semi-finals, but the 24-time Grand Slam champion had to retire due to injury in his semifinal match against Alexander Zverev.

The 38-year-old Serbian then faced first-round defeats in Qatar and Indian Wells upon returning, before losing the Miami Open final to Czech teenager Jakub Mensik.

"Things started well, and it was unfortunate about the injury in Australia, but I saw him play some unbelievable tennis during that event," Murray said.

"After the injury, the following months were tough for him and also challenging for the entire team.

"I gained a lot of insight into coaching. I was fully committed, did my best to assist, and built strong relationships with his team along the way."

Murray, father of four with his wife Kim, mentioned he is enjoying life after tennis.

"I honestly wasn’t sure what retirement would feel like," he remarked. "I didn’t know if I’d enjoy it or miss tennis, or how I’d spend my time. I was a bit anxious before it happened.

"I’m confident I made the right choice to retire when I did. I have no regrets about ending my tennis career.

"I love being a father, and spending time at home with my children is wonderful."
