Nadal: I would be happy to play an exhibition match with Federer, but right now, I definitely can’t beat him.

Tennis legend Federer previously expressed in an interview his willingness to play an exhibition match against Nadal, stating he would like to face his longtime rival once again on the court. Their rivalry has always been one of the most iconic in tennis history, which is why Federer’s suggestion has sparked renewed anticipation among global fans.

Nadal recently replied, laughing: “It’s possible, nothing is certain about the future. Roger and I have a great relationship and keep in touch regularly. I believe eventually we will definitely do something together.”

However, he candidly added: “Federer has been retired longer, while I have only played two 45-minute matches in the past year. To get back on court and not play terribly, I still need some time.”

Regarding the potential outcome of this match, Nadal was straightforward: “Honestly, he would win. He has been training longer than me, and I understand he has plans for January next year, so he’s been preparing for a while.”

Nadal also joked that when he last spoke with Federer, he gave him a heads-up: “If we’re going to play, he should tell me in advance so I don’t look like a fool on the court (laughs).” He also emphasized that both will approach the exhibition carefully to ensure it’s enjoyable and worthwhile for both parties.

Since Federer and Nadal have both reduced their professional play, the tennis world has long missed the classic “Fedal” matches. Therefore, the mere possibility of an exhibition has reignited fans' passion worldwide. Many say that even if it’s no longer a peak professional battle, just seeing these two legends face off again across the net is thrilling enough.

On social media, numerous fans have already started anticipating the match details. “Even if it’s just an exhibition, seeing Federer and Nadal interact on court really feels like a return to their golden era,” one user commented.

Another fan said, “Nadal is so adorable! Even in an exhibition, he’s so serious. I hope he enjoys the match because winning or losing doesn’t matter.” Others noted, “The rivalry between Federer and Nadal is forever a symbol of tennis. Even after retirement, they continue to carry on this legacy.”

Former world No.1 and current commentator Jim Courier stated, “Matches between Federer and Nadal have long surpassed wins and losses; they are part of tennis history. Even an exhibition match will convey the true spirit of sportsmanship, respect, and friendship.” Another tennis great mentioned that their story of mutual inspiration and growth throughout their careers has become a celebrated sports tale. “They are rivals on the court and friends off it. Such an exhibition is more like a celebration of an era.”

Although Nadal humorously admitted his current form isn’t on par with Federer’s, he remains open to the idea of this potential exhibition. Fans, media, and the tennis community alike eagerly await this dream scenario to come true.

This may be more than just a match; it’s a tribute to the remarkable careers of two legends and a vivid embodiment of respect, friendship, and enduring charm within the spirit of tennis.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Lu Xiaotian)
