The two sides held serve in the first ten games of the first set to tie the game at 5-5, and Badosa improved his form at the end of the set, completing consecutive breaks and taking the next set 7-5. In the second set, Badosa was still the first to break, but Gauff then leveled the score at 2-2. After that, Badosa broke twice in a row to stretch the score to 5-2, and although Gauff stubbornly broke back in the eighth game, he was unable to recover under the steady play of his opponent, and Badosa went on to win the next set 6-4 to claim the first TOP10 victory of his career in a Grand Slam.
Badosa's semi-final opponents will be between defending champion Sabalenka and 27th seed Pavlyuchenkova.
