As everyone knows, almost all tennis tournamentshave competitors playing on their home ground. Usually, home players achieve good results and sometimes even become champions. At the end of February, American player Pegula, who has previously reached a Grand Slam final, entered the WTA250 Austin event as the top seed. In the first round, she decisively defeated Dutch player Rus; in the second round, she swept past Spain’s Parisas to reach the quarterfinals; in the quarters, she allowed Russian player Blinkova to win only four games throughout the match, advancing to the semifinals.

In the semifinals, Pegula faced fierce resistance from Australian wildcard Tomjanovic, dropping her first set at the WTA250 Austin event. Nevertheless, Pegula prevailed in the final set, reaching her second tour final of the 2025 season. In the final, she defeated compatriot Kessler in straight sets to claim her first tour title of 2025, becoming the first player to win a home tournament that season.

Italian player Paolini, who has twice reached Grand Slam finals, received a first-round bye at the early May WTA1000 Rome Open; in the second round, she swept past New Zealand’s Lulu Sun, a former Grand Slam quarterfinalist, advancing smoothly; in the third round, Paolini defeated Tunisian player Jabeur, who had reached three Grand Slam finals, continuing her strong run.

She then consecutively beat former Grand Slam champion Latvian player Ostapenko, Russian player Schneider, and American player Stearns, making her first tour final of the 2025 season. In the final, Paolini limited Grand Slam champion Gauff to just six games, winning her first tour title of 2025 on home soil.

In mid-July, Romanian player Begu entered the WTA250 Iasi Open as the seventh seed on home ground. In the first round, she swept Japan’s Nao Hibino; in the second round, despite losing the first set, she rallied to win the next two against Andorran player Jimenez, narrowly reaching the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals, Begu battled through three sets to defeat Czech qualifier Hsieh, advancing to the semifinals; in the semis, she comfortably beat second seed and compatriot Cristian, reaching her first tour final of the 2025 season; in the final, Begu delivered a bagel set to convincingly defeat Swiss player Teichmann, securing her first tour title of 2025.

Additionally, American Pegula won the WTA500 Charleston event at the end of March; Colombian Osorio triumphed at the WTA250 Bogota event also in late March; Czech player Bencic won the WTA250 Prague event in late July; and Canadian player Mboko claimed the WTA1000 Montreal title.
