Insiders reveal the behind-the-scenes story of Alcaraz and Ferrero’s contract termination: a deadlock in the agreement compounded by family conflicts

Additional information about the surprising termination between Alcaraz and Ferrero has come to light, with a source near Ferrero revealing that tensions between Alcaraz’s father and the coach had been ongoing for a while.

Ferrero honored his former student in the public statement and remarked, “I truly wished to maintain our collaboration.”

Many consider the former world number one’s comments as a crucial clue. A source close to Ferrero shared the full story with CLAY magazine.

“It’s quite straightforward,” the source explained.

“The contract was annual, expiring at the end of November 2025. They only presented the new contract on the 13th of this month (Saturday), demanding it be signed first thing on Monday the 15th. Juan Carlos refused to accept it, and the other party was unwilling to make any changes.”

According to CLAY, Ferrero had just two days to review and sign the new contract upon receipt. He made a clear counteroffer, which was rejected.

“That was the end of it. There was no room for further negotiation, and it’s more likely that neither side wanted to continue working together. Neither the ‘Alcaraz team’ nor Ferrero himself were willing to proceed under the existing terms.”

The contract issue was not the only cause of this “breakup.” Alcaraz’s father, Carlos Sr., had longstanding disagreements with Ferrero. The media added, “The relationship between Ferrero and Alcaraz’s father had been strained for quite some time.”

Other reports indicate that a source told CLAY and RG media, “Ferrero and Alcaraz’s father had major differences regarding the player’s career planning.”

Alas! What was bound to happen, eventually did!

When Alcaraz first gained attention in the 2021 season, I wondered how far he could go, depending on whether his “parents” interfered with Ferrero’s team.

Just as Alcaraz’s first coach Navarro believed: maybe those controlling things were the people around him, not Alcaraz himself!
