Gadeki/Pierce's journey to the title was high-end, including a match point win over Zhang Shuai/Popana in the quarter-finals, followed by an upset win over second seeds Lutliv/Venus in the semi-finals. In the Australian derby final, Birrell/Smith broke first in the second game of the first set and then took the next set 6-3, with the two sides tied for most of the second set, with Gadeki/Pierce breaking the crucial break in their opponent's unbreakable service game to pull the set back 6-4. In the final tie-break, the Gadeki/Pierce combination maintained the score lead all the way, although they were once chased by the opponent to a 5-5 draw, but in the second half of the tie-break ushered in the state improvement, 10-6 to lock the victory.
