Djokovic, who retired from the tournament after losing the first set of the semi-finals against Zverev at the 2025 Australian Open, quickly held a press conference after the match to explain the reasons for his retirement and hint at a possible retirement this season.
Deyo attended the press conference
"It was a muscle tear that happened two years ago and I was fine and didn't affect me too much, but this time it wasn't. I didn't touch the ball again after the match against Alcaraz and didn't touch the ball until about an hour before the start of the game. I did everything I could to deal with the muscle tear and at the end of the first set I felt more and more pain, and it's a shame to end it this way, but I've done everything I can. ”
Deyo continued: "If I had won the first set, I would have probably held on for a few more games, but the pain was getting harder and harder. I knew that even if I won the first set, it would be a very tough battle, and God knows that I would have to play for another two or three hours, even four hours, and unfortunately my fitness didn't allow me to do that today. If I'm fit and ready for the game, I think I'm capable of winning today, I'm hitting the ball really well and I can see a lot of positives from my performance. ”
When asked if this would be his last appearance at the Australian Open, Deyo did not completely deny it: "I don't know, it's possible, who knows? I'll have to see how the next season goes, and I want to keep playing, but I'm not sure if I'm going to cut back on the final season. If I'm healthy and motivated, I don't think I have a reason not to compete. I'm going to keep going and I'm going to stay here as long as I feel like I can handle it. ”
On whether he will continue to work with coach Murray, Deyo said: "I don't know yet, we're all disappointed with where we are now, so I haven't talked about future plans yet. I think we should wait until we calm down and then talk about it. ”
