The young Russian talent continues to make solid progress in her career.
Although the 2026 Australian Open has not officially started, the atmosphere at the warm-up tournaments has already heated up with impressive performances. The spotlight today is on Mirra Andreeva – the young Russian star who won her 4th WTA Tour title in Adelaide, Australia.
In the final of the Adelaide International 2026 on the morning of January 17 (Vietnam time), Mirra Andreeva, ranked world No. 8, convincingly defeated another young talent, Victoria Mboko, 6-3, 6-1.
Despite some early difficulties, Andreeva demonstrated superior resilience. Mboko started confidently and quickly took a 3-0 lead, but the 'Second Sharapova' immediately reversed the situation by winning six consecutive games to close the first set 6-3.
In the second set, the Russian player fully controlled the match, breaking serve early, winning the first three games quickly, and maintaining dominance until the end with solid serves.
This marks Mirra Andreeva's 4th WTA Tour title, solidifying her status as one of the notable contenders for the 2026 season. Previously, Andreeva made headlines by winning two consecutive WTA 1000 titles at Dubai and Indian Wells in 2025, and she has conquered all levels within this prestigious tournament system (WTA 250 in Iasi, WTA 500 in Adelaide, and the two WTA 1000 titles mentioned above).
The 18-year-old player only lacks a Grand Slam title to officially establish herself among the top stars in women's tennis. At the upcoming Australian Open, she will face the reigning Olympic runner-up, Donna Vekic, in the opening round.
In the men's event, Jakub Mensik continued his strong rise by defeating Sebastian Baez 6-3, 7-6 to claim his second ATP title in his career. 'The monster created by Novak Djokovic' will start the Australian Open against Pablo Carreno Busta.
