This year's Australian Open semifinals promise to be thrilling with the participation of some of the biggest names.
The first Grand Slam of the year - Australian Open 2026 is approaching its final stages. After exciting matches, the top players who have made it to the semifinals of the "Happy Slam" in both men's and women's singles have been officially confirmed.
In the men's draw, a fierce battle unfolds among the top four seeded players, with the highlight being the clash between the defending champion Jannik Sinner and the most successful player in the tournament's history - Novak Djokovic.
Both have been "favored by fortune" on their journey to the Australian Open semifinals this year. Jannik Sinner miraculously escaped defeat in the third round when he suffered cramps in both his legs and arms due to the hot Melbourne weather, facing the risk of losing a break-point in the third set with the score tied 1-1 before the match was paused for the organizers to close the roof.
This necessary break helped Sinner recover his strength and come back strongly to defeat Eliot Spizzirri in four sets. In the fourth round and quarterfinals, the world No. 2 quickly overcame compatriot Luciano Darderi and eighth seed Ben Shelton.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic has truly been "working magic" on his path to the last four. In the first two rounds, Djokovic faced relatively easy opponents. In the third round, his opponent Botic Van De Zandschulp was injured and unable to perform at full capacity in the final stages.
The miraculous aspect came in the last two rounds when Djokovic won in ways no one expected. In the fourth round, Djokovic didn't break a sweat as Jakub Mensik withdrew before the match. In the quarterfinals, Nole lost the first two sets to Lorenzo Musetti and suffered a toe injury, but Musetti was even more severely injured and had to retire in the third set.
The other semifinal will be an equally exciting showdown between Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev. Alcaraz is making his first Australian Open semifinal appearance, while Zverev needs a win to maintain his world No. 3 ranking under pressure from Djokovic.
In the women's draw, the top seed Aryna Sabalenka will face the Ukrainian player - Elina Svitolina in the most notable semifinal match. After defeating two Russian players in this tournament: Diana Shnaider and Mirra Andreeva, can the wife of Gael Monfils continue her inspiring story against the opponent from Belarus?
Meanwhile, the last remaining Asian representative - Elena Rybakina will go up against Jessica Pegula.
The two women's semifinals at the 2026 Australian Open will take place on January 29, while the men's semifinals will begin a day later (January 30).
