Maillard criticized the U.S. Open for being unscrupulous and ignoring the interests of players in order to make money

On Monday, February 3, an X (former Twitter) user posted a post saying that the men's and women's doubles matches at the 2025 US Open will start on Friday, the first week of the main event. At the same time, the user also said that the mixed doubles match with the 16 draws will be played at the same time as the qualifying tournament, which could start on Tuesday. Jose Morgado, a well-known tennis journalist, was shocked by this and commented: "What kind of ghost doubles news is this? ”

Subsequently, former WTA singles world No. 10 and doubles world No. 1 Mladenovic expressed his displeasure in response to Morgado's post. The French player strongly condemned the US Open's move to move the mixed doubles to the qualifying week, and Kristina Mladenovic made no secret of her frustration when it came to the new mixed doubles schedule for the 2025 US Open. She believes that the adjustment of this hard-court Grand Slam tournament is all about increasing income and does not really take into account the interests of the players.

"It's shocking," she thought. This is just to make more money in the first week of the tournament and make the mixed doubles look like an exhibition match that anyone can play! What about the players who played in the singles qualifiers but could have played mixed doubles based on their doubles rankings? ”

Mladenovic's views have also resonated with many fans, many of whom have previously lashed out at the arrangement. In fact, the former doubles world No. 1 himself had an unhappy time at the US Open.

At the 2020 US Open, Mladenovic and Babos were the top seeds in women's doubles. However, health officials in New York asked the United States Tennis Association (USTA) to remove them from the women's doubles draw. The reason for the decision was that Mladenovic was asked to quarantine because she had been in contact with ATP player Parre, who was diagnosed with the coronavirus during the US Open.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) then issued an official statement explaining the decision, which reads in part: "All individuals identified as having prolonged close contact with an infected player will be asked to remain in their room for the remainder of the quarantine period." Mladenovic was one of them, and the women's doubles tournament had already begun, so the women's doubles pair of Kristina Mladenovic and Babos was disqualified from the 2020 US Open. ”

Currently, Mladenovic is ranked 199th in the world in singles and 28th in doubles. At the 2025 Australian Open, she partnered Zhang Shuai to reach the quarterfinals of the Women's Doubles, but was ultimately defeated by the champion pair of Siniakova and Townsend.

After three consecutive years of record spectators and high demand, the 2025 US Open main draw will be expanded to 15 match days. It also marks the first time in the Open era that the US Open will be held on a weekend – the 2025 main draw will kick off on Sunday, August 24 and run through Sunday, September 7.

The first rounds of the 2025 US Open men's and women's singles will be played from Sunday to Tuesday, with more than 70,000 spectators offering additional opportunities to watch the main draw on Sunday. Six new ticketed sessions will be added on the first matchday (Sunday), including matinee and night reserved seat tickets at Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong Stadium, as well as matinee tickets for grandstand reserved seating and venue passes. After the first round, there will be no further adjustments to the singles main draw schedule.(Source: Tennis Home Author: Spark)
