Dementieva claims Djokovic's achievements are unmatched, while Kuznetsova denies retirement and says a comeback is possible

Recently, Beijing Olympic gold medalist Dementieva mentioned on a show that Djokovic's ability to reach Grand Slam finals at the age of 38 is "beyond imagination," and she is convinced that his achievements "can never be overtaken."

Dementieva conveyed her profound respect for Djokovic's feats. She believes that although young talents like Alcaraz might break some records, Djokovic's ability to compete in Grand Slam finals at 38 is truly astonishing!

Regarding the future of men's tennis, Dementieva adopts a cautious stance. She noted that Alcaraz's achievements might be replicated in the "foreseeable future," but Djokovic's peak form and consistency at 38 is a rare miracle in tennis history.

In response to Dementieva's views, international tennis commentators remarked, "Her opinion reflects the extraordinary nature of Djokovic's accomplishments. We must also acknowledge that in professional tennis history, we've never seen a player maintain such a high level of performance after 35."

Additionally, another 40-year-old Russian star, Kuznetsova, recently confirmed in an interview that she is considering a comeback. She also mentioned that despite not competing for a long time, she maintains a positive lifestyle and good physical condition, regularly training because she "enjoys staying in shape."

Notably, Kuznetsova has not played an official match since Wimbledon 2021. She said, "I have not announced my retirement. Many people have asked me about it. I don’t want to declare retirement because honestly, I don’t know if I will come back. Even today, I’m unsure whether I will return. At that time, I didn’t know if I would get tired of the sport. Now, Serena is still playing at 45. What if I stay healthy? What if I suddenly want to try again? I’m uncertain, so I haven’t said goodbye. I prefer to keep a glimmer of hope in case I want to return later."

Kuznetsova revealed that part of her hesitation comes from a realistic assessment of the current competitive level, admitting that the top ten players are "all in excellent form," making it difficult for her to defeat them.

Regarding Kuznetsova’s potential comeback, former Wimbledon champion Johnson said, "It depends on her physical condition and motivation. If she can stay healthy like Serena and has enough passion, why not?"

A fan commented emotionally, "Seeing these veterans still chasing their dreams is truly touching. Kuznetsova’s words remind me of those athletes who never officially retire and always keep a spark alive in their hearts."

So, what do you think of Dementieva’s perspective? Are you looking forward to Kuznetsova’s return? Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Lu Xiaotian)
