Is it really possible for Serena Williams to make a comeback? She has already started training with professional players and is in excellent condition.

Although Serena Williams previously stated clearly that she would not return, there has been no official confirmation about her comeback yet, and her statement hasn’t stopped ongoing speculation. Now, American player Parks has added new intrigue to the topic, reigniting hopes for Serena’s possible return.

In an interview with Tennis Majors, Parks, who recently reached the quarterfinals of the Ostrava Open and qualified for the WTA 1000 Qatar Open main draw, shared her experience training and interacting with Serena.

“Actually, I trained with her just last Monday and messaged her yesterday. She’s definitely a great mentor to me and has helped me in many ways, especially during training,” said the American player. Parks also commented on Serena’s current physical condition, believing the 23-time Grand Slam champion still possesses top-level competitive ability: “She’s in great shape, so if she returns to the tour, I think she’ll dominate.”

In fact, rumors about Serena’s comeback began circulating as early as December last year. Reports then indicated she had applied to rejoin the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s (ITIA) registered testing pool, a move that theoretically qualifies her for a return.

According to regulations, any player planning a comeback must undergo random anti-doping tests and provide detailed whereabouts information for six months. This is a core requirement before re-entering official competition.

Once this process is completed, Serena would be eligible to participate in official events. However, she currently holds no world ranking and would likely need wildcards to enter tournaments if she returns. Despite ongoing speculation, Serena herself denied the rumors on social media, writing: “Oh my god, everyone, I’m not coming back. These rumors are way overblown.”

Subsequently, ITIA confirmed she did submit an application to rejoin the testing pool but emphasized that this does not mean she has definite plans to return; it simply ensures she is eligible if she chooses to compete. An ITIA spokesperson clarified the process: “Serena Williams has been reinstated on the registered testing pool list.” They added that under World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules, athletes returning from retirement “must undergo testing for at least six months prior to their comeback.”

Another ITIA official, Adrian Bassett, stated that the public should not overinterpret this action: “I don’t know if this means she will definitely come back or if it’s just keeping the option open.” He added, “What I can confirm is that she’s back in the testing pool and therefore must comply with whereabouts requirements.”

At present, Serena has expressed that she is enjoying life away from tennis, although speculation about her future continues.

Recently, Serena Williams addressed the widespread discussion about her potential return during a live interview. On January 28th, she spoke on the Today Show where the host quickly brought up the comeback rumors.

Host Savannah Guthrie directly asked about her re-entry into the anti-doping testing pool: “Recently, if I understand correctly, you rejoined the drug testing pool, and many people see that as a prelude to a return to the court. So I have to ask, will you come back to professional tennis?”

Serena’s reaction was both surprised and humorous; she didn’t give a clear answer immediately, saying, “I mean, are we really asking this on the Today Show? Oh my goodness.”

As the interview continued, Serena maintained a relaxed and cheerful demeanor, offering no definite commitment about a comeback but focusing on her current lifestyle: “I’m just enjoying life right now and feeling happy.” This left the door open for the future but revealed no specific plans.

Moreover, her sister Venus Williams was asked about the possibility of partnering again in doubles in 2026. Fans have long hoped for the legendary sisters to return to the court together, but Venus gave a rather realistic response: “I can only speak for myself. What I know is, I can’t even get her to step on the court. She’s not training, so that possibility seems very slim.”

However, tennis legend Billie Jean King offered a more optimistic view. In an interview with Sky Sports, she said: “I think she really wants to give it another try. But she’s also very smart and practical; she knows she can’t be world number one again.”

Mrs. King also spoke about Serena’s inner motivation, suggesting that her love for tennis might still bring her back: “If you love the sport, then why not? Her life is already very fulfilling, financially she doesn’t need to play, she just enjoys playing.”

Now, after training with Serena, Parks praised her physical condition, adding fuel to the comeback rumors. With these mixed signals and growing discussions, fans can’t help but ask: will this legendary figure really return to the court soon?(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Spark)
