Alcaraz admits after winning in Doha: Success is more than just lifting the trophy

In the recently concluded ATP 500 Doha final, Spanish star Alcaraz dominated French rising talent Fils with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 victory, capturing the Doha title for the first time. This win extended his winning streak this season to 12 matches, showcasing overwhelming dominance.

At the post-match press conference, Alcaraz expressed his delight: “It feels amazing. It feels like the job is done, and that’s fantastic. Both on and off the court, this has been an excellent week; I achieved all the goals I set at the start. It makes me extremely proud of myself and my team. Lifting the trophy in Doha for the first time is truly unbelievable.”

Discussing his dominant performance in the final, Alcaraz analyzed: “I played very well today. From the beginning, I was fully focused, aiming to deliver top-level tennis. I believe the final is the moment to show your best form.” He also showed respect for his opponent: “Arthur made a few mistakes early on, which boosted my confidence and allowed me to stay relaxed and composed. My style was very solid; I attacked when I had chances and chose to pass when necessary. This combination helped me play excellent tennis.”

Despite the one-sided nature of the final, Alcaraz highly praised the French youngster. Notably, Fils had been sidelined with injury since last September and recently returned to the tour.

“Arthur resumed playing about four months ago. He has competed in several tournaments and even reached a final. I defeated some strong players in Doha, and I believe he has the potential to reach the top level,” Alcaraz said, demonstrating the grace of a top player and genuine respect for his rival.

When asked how he defines his successful career so far—having already won seven Grand Slam titles at just 22—Alcaraz gave a thoughtful response:

“For me, success is not just about lifting trophies. Success is about how you feel and how you view yourself. I’m very proud and consider myself successful because I learn from every match, both on and off the court. I learn from every experience in life.”

The 22-year-old Spaniard admitted he is very different from when he first reached the top: “As you can see, I’m not the same person I was when I first became world number one in 2022 and won my first Grand Slam. I strive to keep growing both as a person and as a player. I’m maturing, and now I feel like I’m in a place where I truly enjoy myself.”

“That, to me, is real success. That’s why every time I step on the court, I feel proud and happy. This is how I currently define success in my career.” These words reveal that this 22-year-old Spanish superstar not only possesses remarkable talent and achievements but also maturity and insight beyond his years.

With his Doha victory, Alcaraz continues his 2026 season with an impressive 12-match winning streak. For this young player on the path to maturity, perhaps, as he said, true success lies not just in the number of trophies won but in every growth he achieves on the court and in life.(Source: Tennis Home Author: Mei)
