Weekly Rising Stars: Menšík Nears Top Ten, Two Champions Make Big Jumps!

The three ATP tours are progressing intensely, bringing new shifts in the world rankings this week.

Last week, Echeverry’s impressive performance in Rio earned him his maiden title and an 18-place rise, making him the biggest climber among the top 50. The Argentine has reached No. 33 and is close to entering the Grand Slam seedings.

He staged comebacks in both the semifinal and final, and finally, fortune favored the determined player who had previously reached the French Open quarterfinals, clinching his first title on clay. Winning a 500-level event as a first career title has become a notable trend in recent years.

Several players who performed well last week have climbed the rankings; here’s a look:

Menšík⬆️3 From No.16 to No.13 (Career High)

The Czech top player continues to solidify his position. After winning the Australian tour event earlier this year, he battled Sinner hard in Doha. Although he couldn’t replicate his runner-up finish from previous editions, his ranking still improved. With only the Miami Masters points to defend in the first half of the year, he’s closing in on the top ten and has a good chance to break into it soon.

Echeverry⬆️18 From No.51 to No.33

Fils⬆️6 From No.40 to No.34

The former French No.1 was overwhelmed by Alcaraz in the final, but having defeated several top-ranked players on the way there, he gained significant points. Considering this was only his third event since returning, this talented player is expected to return to the top twenty in the near future.

Korda⬆️10 From No.50 to No.40

This American rising star won his first title since Washington two years ago. Overcoming strong competition including Paul and Tiafoe was no easy feat. If he can perform at his usual level, further ranking improvements are expected.

Tapia⬆️26 From No.68 to No.42

The former Chilean No.1 has seen his ranking drop significantly over the past few years due to poor clay results. Fortunately, reaching the Rio final has halted his decline. With Jarry also out, Tapia now shoulders the responsibility of revitalizing Chilean tennis alone.

Kopliwa⬆️22 From No.87 to No.65 (Career High)

Bosse⬆️25 From No.91 to No.66 (Career High)

Brooks⬆️10 From No.104 to No.94 (Career High)

Van Assche⬆️30 From No.130 to No.100

Though not widely known, these four players have broken into the top 100, with three achieving career-best rankings.(Source: Tennis Home Author: Luo Cheng Qiye)
