Daniil Medvedev is on the verge of winning his second title in Dubai during his career.
Daniil Medvedev advanced to the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships 2026 after a convincing 6-4, 6-2 victory in just 83 minutes over Felix Auger-Aliassime on the evening of February 27, Vietnam time.
This was a nearly flawless performance by the Russian player, as he controlled the match with powerful serves and consistent baseline rallies. This win puts Medvedev in position to claim his second title in Dubai, following the championship he won in 2023.
Notably, throughout his illustrious career with 22 ATP titles across 22 different tournaments, Medvedev has never won the same tournament twice. Therefore, the upcoming final not only represents an opportunity to add another trophy but also to complete the "missing piece" in his collection of achievements.
Previously, "Meddy" arrived in Dubai under some pressure following early exits in Rotterdam and Doha. However, he responded with impressive form, successively defeating Shang Juncheng, Stan Wawrinka, Jenson Brooksby, and Auger-Aliassime without dropping a single set.
"Those were four great matches. I felt I played better with each round, and today was probably my best performance.", Medvedev shared.
Medvedev's opponent in the final will be Tallon Griekspoor, who defeated fifth seed Andrey Rublev 7-5, 7-6 to prevent an all-Russian championship match. The Dutch player even required medical attention for a hamstring issue but still managed to pull off the remarkable victory.
In the past, Medvedev and Griekspoor faced each other once, precisely at last year's Dubai Tennis Championships, where the Dutch player caused an upset by winning in three sets.Griekspoor remains a dangerous opponent with his strong serve and forehand, but given the injury sustained in the semifinal, his chances of producing another miracle are not high.
The final of the Dubai Tennis Championships 2026 between Daniil Medvedev and Tallon Griekspoor will take place at 22:00 on February 28, Vietnam time.
