Kobori Defeats Tiafoe to Clinch Acapulco Title, Achieves Career-High Ranking of No.15

On February 28, 2026, the finals of the ATP 500 Acapulco event took place. The men's singles final saw the No. 5 seed Kobori triumph over the No. 8 seed Tiafoe 7-6(4)/6-4, earning his third ATP Tour singles trophy and his first title of the current season.

After the tie-break reached 3-4, Kobori broke the deadlock, winning four consecutive points to take the set 7-6(4). In the second set, an in-form Kobori built a 4-2 lead with a 40-30 advantage; Tiafoe managed to level the score at 4-4 under pressure. However, Kobori subsequently broke serve again and held his own to close out the match 6-4.

Argentine tennis legend Del Potro attended the award ceremony to present the trophies. With the 500 ranking points and $461,835 in prize money, Kobori's world ranking will rise to a career-best No.15. For Tiafoe, this marks his 11th appearance in a Tour-level singles final, where he has only secured three titles, and he misses the chance to end a championship drought lasting over two and a half years since the 2023 ATP Stuttgart event.
