Zheng Qinwen practices with Naomi Osaka! IW quarterfinal points to defend.

A new week, a new tournament.

All champions were decided in the five tour events concluded last week. Among them, Bouzkova claimed her first career WTA singles title at the WTA 500 Merida, defeating Fruhvirtova 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 in the final; the WTA 250 Austin title was won by Stearns, who overcame Townsend in straight sets in the championship match.

In the other three men's events, the ATP 500 Acapulco title went to Cobolli, who secured his first hard-court trophy by defeating players like Wu Yibing and Tiafoe en route to the championship.

The ATP 500 Dubai title was awarded to Medvedev, who received the championship by walkover due to opponent Griekspoor's pre-match leg injury. This marks his 23rd career tour-level singles title. After earning 500 points and $619,000 in prize money, Medvedev's live ranking rises to world No. 11. Additionally, the ATP 250 Santiago champion was Darderi.

The biggest highlight of this week's tour is undoubtedly the Indian Wells tournament. In the women's singles qualifying that commenced first, top-seeded Boulter is in action. Chinese player Yuan Yue, the sole home hope in the qualifying draw, faces No. 4 seed Garf in the first round. The two recently met in the second round at Austin, where Yuan won 6-3, 6-2, and she aims to extend her winning streak against Garf.

In the women's singles main draw, Zheng Qinwen, Wang Xinyu, and Zhang Shuai have gained direct entry based on their world rankings. After withdrawing last week, Zheng Qinwen arrived early in Indian Wells for preparation. She trained with Japanese star Naomi Osaka today and had practice sessions with Mboko earlier this week. Last year, Zheng reached the quarterfinals here, so she faces some pressure to defend those points.

In the 2025 season, as the No. 8 seed in the Indian Wells women's singles main draw, Zheng Qinwen received a first-round bye. In the second round, she defeated Grand Slam champion Azarenka in straight sets, then overcame Australian player Sun Lulu with a score of 6-4, 7-5.

In the subsequent Round of 16, Zheng faced Kostyuk's challenge and again won in straight sets. She was then eliminated in the quarterfinals by tournament No. 2 seed Swiatek with a score of 6-3, 6-3, who later fell in the semifinals to eventual champion Andreeva.

Indian Wells, though a small city in California, becomes exceptionally vibrant every March due to tennis. The world's top tennis players compete here, naturally attracting countless fans from around the globe. So, which Chinese player do you think will advance the furthest this year?(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Barbie)
