Wildcard 19-year-old homegrown teenager and former junior world No. 1 Mendes defeated Vukic 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(4) to claim his first ATP Tour victory, becoming the youngest Mexican player to win a Tour since Hernandez (Santiago) in 1996, where he will face second seed Ruud in the second round. Spain's Davidovich Fokina saved four match points to beat Bellucci 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-2 to set up a second-round tie with seventh seed Tiafoe, who beat France's Miller 6-4, 6-2.
