Alex Eala closes in on her career-high ranking after a remarkable performance at the Berlin Open.

Eala continues to show remarkable progress on the Tour, posting impressive performances on grass.

Alexandra Eala continues to write her fairy tale at the 2026 Berlin Open by defeating eighth seed Elina Svitolina to secure a spot in the semifinals. Not only extending her impressive grass-court streak, the Filipino player has also made significant strides in the WTA rankings, getting closer than ever to the highest milestone of her career.

Following her stunning victory over Elena Rybakina in the previous round, Eala kept up her red-hot form by overcoming Svitolina 6-3, 6-4. Although the match featured numerous breaks of serve from both sides, the 21-year-old displayed remarkable confidence and composure to control the match against her experienced opponent.

This result allows the SEA Games gold medalist to further improve her WTA ranking. She climbed to No. 30 after defeating Rybakina and now officially enters the world top 30. This rise is also aided by American player Hailey Baptiste being sidelined due to a long-term injury.

Breaking into the top 30 not only strengthens Eala's chances of being seeded at the upcoming Wimbledon but also brings her within striking distance of her career-best ranking. The Filipino player is now just one spot away from her previous best of world No. 29.

"I hope I am improving every day. Matches at this high level force you to push your limits and discover new possibilities."the top-ranked Southeast Asian player shared after her win over Mrs. Monfils.

In the semifinals, Alexandra Eala will face Linda Noskova. This is expected to be a tough challenge, as the Czech player defeated her by a lopsided 6-2, 6-0 scoreline at Indian Wells earlier this year. The Filipino has also struggled against Czech opponents in general.
