When looking at career accomplishments, nobody can match Novak Djokovic.
The tennis legend Rafael Nadal stated that he is completely satisfied with his retirement decision, while also believing that Novak Djokovic deserves to be regarded as the greatest tennis player in history based on his achievements.
During an interview with CNBC Sport while promoting his new Netflix documentary, the 22-time Grand Slam champion talked about life after leaving professional competition. Nadal said he has no intention of returning to play, despite some legends like Serena Williams considering a comeback.
"I explored every limit of myself in my tennis career. That chapter has closed in a beautiful way, and I am extremely proud of what I have achieved. Now, I am building a new chapter in my life and enjoying it.", Nadal shared.
Furthermore, Nadal gave his view on the long-running debate over the "GOAT" (greatest of all time) title in tennis. He said that based on statistics, Djokovic is the most deserving.
"When talking about the greatest player in history, I believe Novak is at the top because the numbers prove it. Achievements are always the most important factor. However, emotions, inspiration, and the impact each person brings are a different story.", Rafa emphasized.
While acknowledging the potential of young stars like Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz, the "King of Clay" said that to surpass Nole's legacy, they would need to maintain peak form for many years and avoid serious injuries.
Closing the conversation, the former Spanish player affirmed that he has no regrets looking back at his career. The most important thing for Rafa is that he fought to his final limits before saying goodbye to professional tennis.
