WTA Miami: Wang Xinyu lost to Kudermetova and lost the first match

On March 19, local time, the first round of the women's singles at the 2025 WTA Miami station ended. China's Wang Xinyu lost 2-6, 6-7(5) to Kudermetova and missed out on qualifying for the second round. Coupled with Yuan Yue, who regretted to be out on the first day, the two Chinese players who participated in the first round of the women's singles all failed, and Zheng Qinwen became the only remaining Chinese golden flower in the women's singles draw.

Wang Xinyu won 1-1 in her two meetings with Kudermetova, winning in straight sets in Miami last year, but losing in three sets at the China Open. In this game, Wang Xinyu was slow in the first set, and only resisted for 28 minutes to lose the first set 2-6. In the second set, Wang Xinyu saved four break points and held all the service games, but after the match entered the tie-break, Kudermetova played more consistently, and finally she lost another set 6-7 (5) and lost the first match.

On the first match day, Yuan Yue fought hard for 2 hours and 23 minutes, and unfortunately lost to Czech star Siniakova 2-6/6-2/6-7(4). After reaching the women's singles round of 16 in Brisbane in the first week of this year, Yuan Yue suffered a first-round trip in the singles main draw in seven consecutive tournaments since then. After deducting last year's Austin title and Indian Wells quarter-finals, Yuan Yue's world ranking has slipped to the top 100 mark, and if she fails to achieve good results in the next few weeks, she may not be able to qualify for the main draw of this year's French Open.

In other matches, two former Grand Slam women's singles champions, Azarenka and Raducanu, beat their respective opponents to advance. Bencic defeated Jastremska in three sets, while Garcia beat Bondar to reach the second round. In terms of homegrown players, Kessler, Stearns and Pera won to advance, while Volynets lost to Ella and lost their first game.
