Wong Chak Lam reached the third round of the Miami Masters, breaking the history of Hong Kong, China

At the 2025 ATP1000 Miami Masters, 20-year-old Hong Kong tennis player Wong Chak Lam shined and became the focus of tennis attention.

Wildcard Wong Chak Lam faced world No. 82 German player Altmaier in the first round, and he won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to reach the second round of the ATP1000 tournament for the first time in his career, which was also the first historic victory for a Hong Kong men's singles player in the ATP1000 tournament. In the second round, facing the world No. 14 seed and rising American star Shelton, Huang Zelin defeated his opponent in three sets 7-6, 2-6, 7-6 to reach the round of 32 of the Masters for the first time, and will face the lucky loser in the third round, Australia's Walton. Huang Zelin has already earned 50 points and $60,440 in prize money in this competition, ranking 167 in the instant ranking.

Huang Zelin's tennis career began by chance. When he was 5 years old, he took tennis lessons for his sister and began to pursue his dream. In 2021, he joined Nadal Tennis Academy to train, and in the same year he partnered with France's Max Westerphal to win the US Open junior men's doubles title, becoming the first male player from Hong Kong to lift a junior Grand Slam trophy. In January 2022, he won the Australian Open Junior Men's Doubles title with American player Bruno Katsuhara.

After turning into the professional arena, Huang Zelin continued to break through. In June 2023, he won his first ITF Pro Tour men's singles title in Tunisia. In the same year, he saved 5 match points to defeat Wu Yixuan at the Hangzhou Asian Games. In 2024, he will play in the Miami qualifier and make it to the main draw, becoming the first player in Hong Kong's history to reach the main draw of the ATP Masters 1000.

Today, at the age of 21, Wong Chak Lam has become a leading figure in Hong Kong tennis. With his unremitting efforts and firm belief, he has proved the strength and potential of Asian players in the tennis arena. In the future, I believe that Wong Chak Lam will continue to pursue his dreams on the road of tennis, win more glory for Hong Kong tennis, China, and inspire more young players to devote themselves to tennis.
