Since her comeback in February, Kvitova has lost in the first round of all four tournaments she has competed in, and her first-round opponent in Rome is Begu, who has met seven times before, with Kvitova holding the lead 6-1. In this match, after the two sides tightened the score in the first set and broke three consecutive breaks at the end of the set, Kvitova held her second serve to win the set and take the next set 7-5. In the second set, Kvitova, who was getting smoother and smoother, completely controlled the initiative of the match, and finally allowed her opponent to complete only one hold to seal the victory 6-1.

After 35 points, Kvitova has risen 229 places to around 600 in the immediate rankings, and she will face her old rival Abdul-Jabbar across the net in the next round. China's Wang Xiyu lost 2-6, 2-6 to Ruth in the final round of qualifying.
