WTA Rome: Wang Xinyu was eliminated in the first round and suffered four consecutive defeats on tour

In addition, Zheng Qinwen, who participated as the No. 8 seed in the tournament, had a bye in the first round, and her second-round opponent has also been selected. Serbia's Danilovic advanced to the second round with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Czech star Sniakova. Zheng and Danilovic met in last year's United Cup, when Zheng won in straight sets.
