Novak Djokovic's last-minute wildcard entry added a lot of attention to the Geneva Open, but who else will be featured at the ATP 250 event?
The Swiss tournament and the Hamburg Open are the last two warm-up tournaments before the French Open, both on May 18-24.
Big names usually choose to take a break from the tournament the week before a Grand Slam tournament, but Djokovic decided to play at the Geneva Open as he has only played two matches on clay so far this season.
In fact, he also participated in the ATP 250 tournament last year, when he was also hoping to get some opportunities ahead of Roland Garros (French Open). It proved to be a wise decision, reaching the semi-finals in Geneva and the quarter-finals at the French Open in 2024 before retiring due to injury.
The ATP 250 singles draw has 28 players, with the top four seeds having a first-round bye and going straight to the second round.
Of these, 18 players will be shortlisted by ranking, 3 players will receive wild cards, 4 players will advance through the qualifiers, and 3 slots will be allocated to special exemptions/protection rankings/special rankings.
Round 1: 0 points
Second round: 25 points
Quarter-finals: 50 points
Semi-finals: 100 points
Runner-up: 165 points
Winner: 250 points
Only Djokovic has confirmed his wildcard status, with tournament organisers announcing two more wildcards in the coming week.
Jarry, ranked 53rd, is the top seed in the qualifying draw, while Diallo (54th), Bonzi (58th), Kei Nishikori (62nd) and Cameron Norrie (91st) will also be in the qualifying round.
However, Jarry could still be shortlisted by virtue of his ranking, as he is second on the bench and Agut is first on the bench.
Taylor Fritz, ranked No. 4 in the world, will be the top seed in the Swiss event, followed by Novak Djokovic, Ruud, Dimitrov, Mahachi, Khachanov, Poperin and Shapovalov.
Ruud is a three-time champion, beating Mahachi in the 2024 final. His other two victories came in 2021 and 2022.
However, Ruud's availability is yet to be determined. He is currently playing in the Italian Open and has a busy schedule of late, having won the Madrid Open last week and reached the quarter-finals of the Barcelona Open.
Jarry won the tournament in 2023, beating Dimitrov in the final.
