In the early hours of July 22, Beijing time, the US Open and Montreal event officials announced Zheng Qinwen's withdrawal, indicating that the Chinese star will miss this year's North American autumn hard court season. This marks her first absence from a Grand Slam event since the 2022 Australian Open, where she reached the women's singles quarterfinals in the previous two years at the US Open. Additionally, she will also withdraw from the mixed doubles competition at this year's US Open (partnering with Draper). With Zheng Qinwen and others withdrawing, Chinese players Zhang Shuai and Wang Yafan have qualified for the Montreal women's singles event.

On the evening of July 21, the lineup for the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup finals in Shenzhen was announced, featuring the host team from China, which includes Zheng Qinwen, Wang Xinyu, Yuan Yue, Zhang Shuai, and Jiang Xinyu. The event will be held from September 16 to 21 at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center. However, given that participating countries can adjust their lineups before the event starts, it remains to be seen whether Zheng will ultimately compete, depending on her recovery progress.

After the conclusion of this year's Wimbledon, the Washington event officials announced that Zheng Qinwen would participate with a wildcard. She then returned to China for a brief rest and training. On July 17, Zheng withdrew from the Washington event, and subsequently, on Saturday (July 19), she announced that she would undergo surgery on her right elbow. She stated on social media that she had been suffering from right elbow pain recently and decided to address the injury through arthroscopic surgery, focusing on rehabilitation training to return to the court in good health as soon as possible.
During this year's Australian Open, Zheng Qinwen revealed that she had developed an elbow injury after last year's WTA Finals. Over the past seven months, she has had to wear an elbow brace in every match. Despite competing with the injury, she achieved impressive results, including reaching the quarterfinals at the French Open and the semifinals in Rome, solidifying her position in the TOP 10 of the world rankings. We wish Zheng a speedy recovery and look forward to witnessing her remarkable performances on the court again in the near future.
