Ivanisevic stated: Sinner's strength slightly surpasses Alcaraz, and Djokovic can still compete with him.

Former Wimbledon champion and Djokovic's ex-coach Goran Ivanisevic recently shared sharp insights on the current competitive landscape of men's tennis during an interview. He believes that the Italian rising star Sinner is currently in a state that slightly exceeds Alcaraz, and the only player who can still compete with him is Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

In the 2025 Wimbledon final, Sinner made a comeback to defeat Alcaraz 3-1, securing his fourth Grand Slam title and further solidifying his top position among the new generation. Ivanisevic remarked: "Even after the French Open final, Sinner was able to make a strong comeback and win. That final was fiercely contested, but Sinner truly performed better. In my opinion, he currently has a slight edge over Alcaraz."

This assessment is not unfounded. Sinner's performance in the 2025 season has been nothing short of dominant, as he won the Australian Open final without conceding a single break point against Zverev; he then came from behind to defeat Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, becoming the first active player to have beaten Djokovic on both grass and hard courts in Grand Slam events. In contrast, while Alcaraz maintains an exceptionally high level of competition, Sinner seems to have a slight advantage in stability during crucial points and tactical execution.

Although Sinner and Alcaraz are seen as the new kings of the tennis world, Ivanisevic emphasized that Djokovic remains the only player capable of matching them: "These two (Alcaraz and Sinner) are operating on another level, but at this stage, only Djokovic can compete with them; the rest of the players have no chance."

Ivanisevic admitted that Djokovic was not in his best form when he lost to Sinner in the Wimbledon semifinals; otherwise, the outcome might have been different. He acknowledged that even in 100% form, Djokovic would have a low chance against the current Sinner, but Djokovic's experience, tactical adaptability, and mental fortitude on the Grand Slam stage remain unmatched by other players.

Ivanisevic gave high praise to Sinner's versatility: "I honestly can't think of any strategy to counter him because he always knows how to respond."Sinner's improvement is evident not only in his baseline rallying capabilities but also in his serving, returning, and net play, all of which have reached elite levels, allowing him to find solutions against various types of opponents. In comparison, while Alcaraz is more explosive and creative, he seems to lag slightly in consistency.

Ivanisevic believes that a clear "three-way battle" has emerged in men's tennis: Sinner, Alcaraz, and Djokovic, while other players (such as Medvedev and Zverev) are at least "five positions" behind them.

This perspective is supported by the Grand Slam results of the 2025 season: Sinner: Australian Open champion, Wimbledon champion;Alcaraz: French Open champion;Djokovic: Although he did not win a title, he reached the semifinals in all three Grand Slams.

As Djokovic ages, and with 23-year-old Sinner and 22-year-old Alcaraz in their prime, the power transition in men's tennis seems to have been completed. If Sinner can maintain his strong performance at the US Open, he has a chance to become the first player to win three Grand Slam titles in a single season after the "Big Three," officially beginning his own era.

However, the adjustment ability of Alcaraz and Djokovic's "old soldier never dies" spirit should not be overlooked. The competition among the three at the 2025 US Open may determine the future direction of tennis. As Ivanisevic stated, "In today's men's tennis, only these three are playing real tennis; the others can only strive to catch up."(Source: Tennis Home Author: Mei)
