The Washington tournament finals list has been released, with two players striving for their first career title!

The Washington tournament is in full swing, and in the finals lineup for both men's and women's singles, we are delighted to see two players making their way back to the tour finals, aiming to break their fate and lift their first tour championship.

First up is the Spanish blonde, Fokina, who hinted at an impending breakout in my previous article.

As expected, during the quarter-finals against the local star Fritz, Fokina won the first set tiebreaker. Although he lost the second set and fell behind significantly in the deciding set, this former Masters finalist seemed to have found the key to victory, ultimately winning several consecutive games to complete the comeback.

In the semi-finals, facing the American number two, Shelton, who has firmly established himself in the world top ten, Fokina emerged victorious once again, making it to the tour finals once more.

Although the Spaniard does not have fond memories from past experiences, there are plenty of players who have achieved their first title at a 500-level event; just in recent years, we’ve seen Musetti, Makhach, and others do it. Moreover, the Washington tournament often gives rise to new champions. According to this trend, Fokina indeed has a significant chance of claiming the title.

Since he has already defeated two players ranked in the world’s top ten, overcoming another player outside the top ten should not be too difficult. There are numerous examples of players like Cilic winning Masters titles and the recently retired Van Rijthoven claiming grass court titles, who have surged to the top after a series of victories.

Of course, as the highest-ranked player yet to win a tour title, Fokina's current situation has its reasons. His unstable mindset during crucial moments often leads to frustration, which has been evident in his past matches. It remains uncertain whether he can finally achieve his dream of reaching the top.

In the women's competition, the anticipated rematch from the US Open finals did not materialize, as Fernandez triumphed over Grand Slam champion Rybakina. Meanwhile, Raducanu, another former US Open finalist, fell short, losing to the Russian beauty Kalinskaya, who has once again reached the finals of a tour event.

Speaking of Kalinskaya, it is well-known that she was in a relationship with Sinner. During their time together, they were often seen supporting each other at matches, which was truly enviable. However, there were also criticisms regarding their relationship; on one hand, her stunning looks made them a picture-perfect couple, but on the other hand, their performance levels were vastly different—one being the world number one and the other still searching for a title—leading to much reflection.

This golden couple ultimately parted ways, and now Sinner has claimed his first Wimbledon title, still riding high, while can Kalinskaya hope to capture her first title?(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Luo Cheng Qi Ye)
