The lineup for the Laver Cup is gradually being revealed, with Ruud set to compete for the fifth consecutive time.

On July 30, 2025, the Laver Cup announced that Norway's 13th-ranked star, Casper Ruud, has been selected for Team Europe, marking his fifth consecutive participation in this event. This year's Laver Cup will take place from September 19 to 21 at the Chase Center in San Francisco, making it the first time the event is held on the U.S. West Coast.

As a three-time Grand Slam finalist, Ruud has become a key member of Team Europe since making his Laver Cup debut in Boston in 2021, having competed in events in London (2022), Vancouver (2023), and Berlin (2024). He currently holds a record of 4 wins and 2 losses in this competition. Earlier this season, he also won the Madrid Open, showcasing strong form.

This year's Team Europe will be led by new captain Yannick Noah, aiming for the championship. Four members have already been confirmed:

ATP Ranking Player

2 Carlos Alcaraz

3 Alexander Zverev

9 Holger Rune

13 Casper Ruud

Ruud expressed his excitement for the event: "The Laver Cup is very special; it brings together European players with a rich tennis history to compete against top players from around the world. I love the feeling of representing Europe; it's completely different from playing for just my country. What’s more unique is the teamwork—competing alongside former rivals, supporting each other, is an incredible experience." He also mentioned that competing for the first time in front of the "dynamic duo" Noah and Thiem excites him, and as a fan of the Golden State Warriors, it is especially meaningful for him to play at the Chase Center.

Regarding Ruud's inclusion, Captain Noah praised him highly: "Casper is an outstanding competitor who brings experience, passion, and composure to the team. He understands the spirit of the Laver Cup and is the core strength the team needs. I am very glad he is back."

On the opposing side, Team World will be led for the first time by eight-time Grand Slam champion Andre Agassi, aiming to secure their third Laver Cup title in history. Currently, four members of Team World have been confirmed:

ATP Ranking Player

4 Taylor Fritz

7 Ben Shelton

15 Tommy Paul

49 Joao Fonseca

The remaining two members of each team will be announced just before the U.S. Open.

Founded in 2017, the Laver Cup has entered its eighth edition, featuring unique rules. Six of Europe’s top male players will compete against six players from other regions over three days, with a distinctive black court. The event rotates annually between Europe and other cities. Each team’s six players must participate in one singles match each on the first two days, with a maximum of two singles matches over three days, and at least four players must participate in doubles. The scoring system awards 1 point for a win on Friday, 2 points on Saturday, and 3 points on Sunday, with the first team to reach 13 points declared the winner.

It is noteworthy that this year’s venue, the Chase Center, is home to the seven-time NBA champion Golden State Warriors and the WNBA’s Golden State Valkyries, making it the first time the venue will host a tennis event, promising a unique viewing experience for fans.
