Swiatek criticized the unscrupulous Polish media, expressing she would trade a year without titles for a Grand Slam championship.

Swiatek recently made her views on the Polish media clear. The former world number one condemned the media for their "absurd and ridiculous" coverage of her, while admitting that she rarely reads news about herself.

Swiatek is undoubtedly one of Poland's greatest sports stars in recent years. She has won six Grand Slam titles so far and dominated the WTA rankings for 125 weeks as the world number one; she is also the only Polish player to have won a Grand Slam title in tennis.

With her rising fame and achievements, Swiatek has also faced intense scrutiny and pressure from the Polish media. Recently, at a post-match press conference during the Canadian Open, the 24-year-old athlete discussed related reports: "Overall, I don’t watch (the news). I only looked at some during my two-month break because I was so bored, and there were a lot of completely illogical and strange things. That’s why I wanted to see for myself, because the content was so absurd that I couldn’t believe people around me said the media really wrote that. I wanted to see the evidence myself. But other than that, I don’t read the news at all. It’s pointless. Sorry, everyone."

Currently, Swiatek has easily defeated Guo Hanyu and Lis in Montreal, showing a strong performance.

In July this year, Swiatek ended a year-long title drought by winning the Wimbledon Championships, marking her first title on grass and her sixth Grand Slam title overall.

After defeating Anisimova and lifting the "Rosewater Dish," which symbolizes the women's singles championship, Swiatek sent a strong message to the Polish media: "As a public figure and athlete, we can’t react to everything. We have to focus on ourselves. Sometimes that’s easy, and sometimes it’s harder. The media coverage of me over the past few months, especially the Polish media’s attitude towards me and my team, to be honest, hasn’t been pleasant. I hope they can leave me alone and let me do my job in peace."

When asked if she would be willing to "trade a year without titles for a Wimbledon championship," Swiatek gave a rather meaningful answer, "Oh my gosh (laughs), that question is really tough."

“Well, the first half is certainly a bit sad, but yes, I would absolutely be willing to trade a year without any titles for a Wimbledon championship, no doubt about it. After all, that’s a Grand Slam. Even if I didn’t reach any finals this year, except for the Bad Homburg event, I still feel I played some good matches. You know, it’s always just a little bit off, like in the semifinals or something, but regarding my overall performance this year, I think I’ve done really well. So yes, I would be willing to make that trade.”

After winning at Wimbledon, Swiatek showed great confidence. "If it means getting a Grand Slam title, I would sign a deal to go a year without winning," Iga stated firmly, "I’m focused on my improvement on grass." She also acknowledged that before that pivotal victory, she had to endure external criticism and speculation. "I try not to look at those reports about me because some of the things are completely ridiculous. What I hear is already absurd enough, so I really don’t need to care about what you write. Sorry, everyone." She stated candidly.

When asked how to control the pace of a match while being viewed as a top contender, Swiatek also provided a profound response: “When I was younger, I didn’t feel like a dominant player, but as my skills improved, I gradually realized how important it is to trust myself and find a balance between intense focus, humility, and confidence. Consistent performance has made me believe that even if I start poorly, I still have the ability to turn things around.”

Next, Swiatek will face Danish player Tauson at the Montreal event.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Spark)
