The 2025 Montreal Open has reached its last rounds. Following today's highlight matches, 【W】Muboko and 【9】Rybakina have been the first to reach the semifinals. The women's singles lower bracket will see 【10】Svitolina face Osaka and 【6】Keys take on 【16】Townsend in the quarterfinals.
In doubles, after being unexpectedly eliminated in singles, Gauff teamed up with compatriot Keysler to defeat the Hsieh Su-wei/Danilovic pair in the semifinals, securing a spot in the women's doubles final. The other spot in the lower bracket will be contested between 【3】Zhang Shuai/Townsend and Dolehide/Kenin.
Meanwhile, after the Montreal Open concludes, another major event will take place this week—the Cincinnati Open. This will be the eighth WTA 1000 event of the season and the last mixed event before the US Open.
Regarding the specific competition rules and schedule, this year's Cincinnati main draw will start on Thursday (August 7), with the finals expected on August 18 (Monday). Additionally, the qualifying rounds will take place over the next two days, featuring 48 spots for both men and women, with approximately 12 players from each advancing to the main draw.
Looking at the North American summer hard court events this year, many fans may have noticed that the event duration has increased. Both the Montreal and Cincinnati tournaments have expanded the original 56 singles draw to 96, extending the schedule to 15 days.
Among the players of interest to domestic fans, Wang Xinyu, Zhu Lin, and Wang Yafan have directly qualified for the Cincinnati main draw, while two Chinese players, Yuan Yue and Guo Hanyu, are competing in the women's singles qualifying rounds.
Yuan Yue, as the 6th seed in the women's singles qualifying, will face Australian player Sharma in the first round. The winner between them will compete for a main draw spot against the winner of 【18】Gadecki/Ngounou; Guo Hanyu's first-round opponent is the 19th seed Todoni, and if she wins, she could challenge the top seed in qualifying, Siegmund.
In the men's singles, Buyun Zhao and Shang Juncheng have also qualified directly for the main draw. Buyun Zhao performed decently in the Montreal Open last week, winning his first-round match against Koprivova in a tiebreak to earn valuable points, but lost to the 28th seed Sonego in the second round, missing out on the third round.
Shang Juncheng made his return to competition in Montreal after a break since the Australian Open, but unfortunately lost in two sets to qualifying player Dackworth. However, it is commendable that he managed to complete the match after such a long absence from the court, although he did experience discomfort in his right foot during the second set. After the match, he stated that this was a normal reaction to high-intensity competition.
Looking forward to good results from the Chinese players in Cincinnati!(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Barbie)
