In 2025, Mboko has achieved six significant milestones in her career.

In the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 in Montreal, Canadian rising star Mboko, who entered with a wildcard, decisively defeated Spanish player Bosa, marking her first entry into the semifinals of a tour event. Thus, she became the only Canadian player still remaining in the draw. Indeed, Mboko's five consecutive wins at the WTA 1000 in Montreal are not mere coincidence. In the 2025 season, she has already achieved six major breakthroughs in her career. So, what are these breakthroughs? Today, let this article take you through them.

At the beginning of the 2025 season, Mboko, ranked far beyond 330, was not on the radar of fans. In this range, there are too many players competing. Many players spend their entire careers without ever breaking through this level. From early January to mid-February, over a month, Mboko achieved twenty consecutive wins, clinching four championships from various tournaments in France, Georgia, and England. During this period, she raised her world ranking by over a hundred spots. Undoubtedly, this is the first breakthrough in Mboko's career this year.

In mid-March, after winning her fourth challenger title of the year, Mboko entered the WTA 1000 Miami Open as a wildcard. In the first round, she faced Colombian star Osorio, a multiple tour champion, and after a grueling three-set battle, she secured her first career tour victory. In the second round, against Spanish player Badosa, despite losing the first set, Mboko pushed her opponent to a deciding set. However, ultimately due to differences in strength and experience, she fell short in the tiebreak. Nevertheless, this still represents the second breakthrough in Mboko's career.

In early May, during the qualifying rounds of the WTA 1000 in Rome, Mboko defeated Spanish player Buchsa and Russian player Rashimova, breaking through the qualifiers for the first time in her career. In the first round, she convincingly beat an unknown Italian player, achieving her second victory in a WTA 1000 main draw; in the second round, facing American star Gauff, Mboko took the lead, seemingly on the verge of advancing. Unfortunately, Gauff came back to win the next two sets, reversing the match against Mboko. However, here, Mboko still achieved her third breakthrough of the 2025 season.

At the end of May, at Roland Garros, Mboko won five matches starting from the qualifiers, defeating Austrian player Klaus, Liechtenstein player von Deichmann, Slovenian player Juvan, New Zealand player Sun Lulu, and German player Lis. This marked her first time advancing from a Grand Slam qualifier to the main draw, along with her first Grand Slam victory. Not only that, but she also reached the round of 32 in her first Grand Slam event. Although she suffered a complete defeat in the third round against Chinese star Zheng Qinwen, Mboko still achieved her fourth breakthrough of the 2025 season.

At the end of June, Mboko triumphed over Japanese player Hibino and Swiss player Riedel in the Wimbledon qualifiers, reaching the final round. Unfortunately, in the decisive match, after winning the first set, she was defeated by Australian player Han Tianyu, who came back to win two sets. Despite this loss, Mboko still gained entry to the main draw as a lucky loser. In the first round, she decisively defeated Polish player Frech, achieving her first victory in a Grand Slam main draw on grass. This was also Mboko's first win against a player ranked in the top 25 this year, marking her fifth breakthrough of the 2025 season.

Last week, Mboko entered the WTA 1000 Montreal tournament as a wildcard. She successively defeated Australian player Biller, Grand Slam champion Kenin from the USA, and Czech player Bouzkova, making her first entry into the round of 16 in a WTA 1000 event. In the fourth round, facing American star Gauff, who has won both the US Open and French Open, Mboko swept her opponent, advancing to her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal.

In the quarterfinals, she convincingly defeated Spanish player Bosa, who also reached the WTA 1000 quarterfinals for the first time, achieving the sixth breakthrough of the 2025 season. Thus concludes today's tennis story, with more to come tomorrow.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Yixin Jushi)
