On August 5, local time, all semifinal spots at the ATP Toronto Masters were filled, with two men's singles quarterfinal matches taking place in the lower half. Second seed Fritz defeated sixth seed and last year's runner-up Rublev with a score of 6-3, 7-6(4), successfully advancing to the semifinals. The American star had a match point while leading 5-4 in the second set but was then pushed into a tiebreak by Rublev. However, Fritz steadied himself in the decisive set, marking his 20th hard-court victory of the season.

In the second quarterfinal match, fourth seed Shelton ended De Minaur's seven-match winning streak with a 6-3, 6-4 victory to reach the semifinals. With this win, Shelton moved up two spots to seventh in the race for the ATP Finals in Turin.

The 22-year-old American has also become the youngest American to reach a Masters semifinal since Andy Roddick at the 2003 Indian Wells Masters. If he wins the title, Shelton's world ranking will rise from seventh to sixth (surpassing Djokovic), setting a new personal best.
The men's singles semifinals will take place on August 6, local time, with top seed Zverev facing off against 11th seed Khachanov first (7 AM Beijing time on August 7), followed by the "American showdown" between Fritz and Shelton.
