Two Chinese male players were eliminated in the first round at Cincinnati, marking a disappointing start.

As two major tournaments leading up to the US Open, Montreal and Cincinnati have always been the top choices for players to prepare. The two events are seamlessly connected. In a highly anticipated women's singles final in Montreal, local rising star Mbogho triumphed over Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka as a wildcard entrant, claiming her first career title on the tour.

Looking at Mbogho's journey to the championship in this tournament, it is impressive as she defeated four Grand Slam champions: Kenin, Gauff, Rybakina, and Osaka in the final. She is also the first Canadian player in the Open Era to achieve this feat in a single tournament. Starting the year outside the top 300, she was ranked 85th before this event, and after winning the Montreal women's singles title, her ranking skyrocketed to 25th.

Notably, Mbogho has become the third local player to win the title in Montreal during the Open Era, and she is the youngest among them, following Urbain in 1969 and Andreescu in 2019.

Of course, aside from the latest results from Montreal, the Cincinnati Masters competition is equally exciting. Two Chinese male players, Bu Yunchaoke and Shang Juncheng, both faced defeats in their recently concluded first-round matches, battling hard for three sets but ultimately losing 1-2 in total.

Bu Yunchaoke secured a victory in Montreal, defeating Kopriva 2-0, marking his first win in the tournament (his fourth career Masters victory), but was eliminated in the second round by 28th seed Sonego.

Upon arriving in Cincinnati, Bu Yunchaoke faced Fonseca in the first round. After winning the first set 6-4, he was reversed by his opponent, losing 6-2, 7-5, and thus missed the chance to face 17th seed Fokina in the second round.

After making a comeback in Montreal but being eliminated in the first round, Shang Juncheng continued to participate in the Cincinnati Masters. In the first round against Echeverry, he also lost after winning the first set 7-6, as his opponent came back to win two straight sets. The match was dramatic; Shang Juncheng was down 0-4 in the first set tiebreak and, after leading 5-2 in the second, missed two match points. The match was interrupted due to rain, and upon resuming, he lost the second set in a tiebreak. The final set was equally intense, but Shang Juncheng ended up losing 1-2 overall, continuing his search for a first win since his return.

Thus, there are no male players from mainland China left in this year's Cincinnati Masters.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Barbie)
