Piaty: When can Sinner and Alcaraz achieve their career Grand Slam goals?

Yannick Sinner's former coach recently remarked that the current world number one is expected to achieve his career Grand Slam within the next six to seven years. Sinner has already secured the Wimbledon title, and only needs the French Open to complete the set, indicating he has covered three-quarters of the distance.

In men's tennis, the rivalry between Sinner and Alcaraz has drawn considerable interest, with both players winning the titles of the last seven Grand Slam tournaments. Piaty believes that both young players love competition and enjoy the process of facing each other in every match, always striving to be the strongest, and their rivalry is healthy without excessive obsession. Piaty stated:

"Their personalities and styles differ; one enjoys celebrating without being overly flamboyant, while the other prefers a quieter life at home or in the mountains." However, Piaty also pointed out that they sacrificed a lot from a young age to achieve their current success, and enjoying the fruits of their labor now is only natural.

Regarding Sinner's Grand Slam prospects, Piaty noted that Sinner has made significant progress over the past year and has shown strong competitiveness in clay court events.

"He understands that the next six to seven years are crucial for achieving the Grand Slam, which has always been my perspective."

In Piaty's view, each player has their strengths in different Grand Slam events:

"Alcaraz is favored for the French Open, while more people lean towards Sinner for Wimbledon, and their differing styles and personalities make the competition even more intriguing." At the same time, he believes both players are well aware of the rules in the sports world, understanding that they have fans who support them as well as those who look forward to seeing them fail, which is the norm in sports.

Currently, both Sinner and Alcaraz have secured their spots in the ATP Finals. Piaty stated that they share a common goal for the remainder of the year:To win the US Open and finish the season ranked number one in the world.

"With Wimbledon concluded and the grass season over, it’s normal for top players to focus on the ATP Finals in November. Sinner and Alcaraz secured their spots earlier than others and have already obtained their tickets for the Turin Finals."

However, before the year-end finals, the US Open title and the honor of being the world number one will be the focal points of their upcoming battles.

The Grand Slam titles of Alcaraz and Sinner

Piaty suggests that the goal of completing a career Grand Slam in the next six or seven years is somewhat conservative.

Who will achieve this goal first, Sinner or Alcaraz?

Sinneradmitted that he was quite "lucky" in his narrow victory against Dimitrov at Wimbledon. Dimitrov's unexpected injury somewhat contributed to Sinner's first Wimbledon title. However, given Dimitrov's age (34), he is unlikely to pose a threat to Sinner at Wimbledon in the coming years. On the other hand, based on Sinner's performance at the French Open this year, he poses a significant threat to Alcaraz's chances of winning at Roland Garros.

Alcarazonly needs the Australian Open title to achieve his Grand Slam dream. His best result at the Australian Open has been reaching the quarter-finals twice. Therefore, winning the Australian Open is more challenging for Alcaraz compared to Sinner winning the French Open.

Additionally, the competition on hard courts is more intense. This will also increase the difficulty for Alcaraz to claim the title at the Australian Open. Thus, the overall analysis concludes that Sinner is more likely to achieve his career Grand Slam goal before Alcaraz.
